Teenager Hit By Car ‘Doing Doughnuts’

A teenage girl was hit by a car Police say was being driven recklessly in a Market Harborough Car park on Saturday night.

Officers say the driver of the Vauxhall Adam was performing ‘doughnuts’ in the Sainsbury’s Car Park off Springfield Street at the time of the collision, just after 9.30pm.

The victim, aged 19, was taken to hospital with head and back injuries.

The term doughnut is given to vehicles being used to spin at speed.

Harborough Police – who say the girl’s injuries are not being classed as serious – are considering prosecuting the driver.

A spokesman said: “We have spent many years issuing what we call section 59 notices to drivers, for dangerous, or inconsiderate driving, that causes alarm and distress to others.

“Some laws exist for the safety of yourself, and other members of the public.

“Please drive considerately, and show responsibility at all times, when handing motorised vehicles.”

Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 enables officers to seize vehicles which are being driven in a manner causing ‘alarm, distress or annoyance’.
