Stretch Of A6 Desborough Bypass To Close For Three Days

Drivers are being warned a stretch of the A6 Desborough bypass is to close for three days so defects in the road surface over a bridge can be repaired.
The stretch between the B576 and Braybrooke Road roundabouts will be shut from 8pm this Friday evening until 6am on Tuesday June 13th.
Diversions will be signposted.
It was identified earlier this year waterproofing on the deck of the bridge over the railway line had failed, leading to potholes consistently forming.

Northamptonshire Highways are beginning preparation for the work today, with temporary traffic lights in place until Friday.
A spokesperson told HFM: “The bridge waterproofing has failed prematurely on the bridge deck. When a waterproofing membrane fails, it debonds (lifts) from the concrete deck, which in turn means repeated vehicles travelling over the carriageway surfacing will result in potholes forming.
“The works will consist of removing the carriageway surfacing. Removing the waterproofing membrane, a structural examination of the concrete deck and any concrete repairs carried out. The new waterproofing membrane will be sprayed onto the prepared concrete deck, allowed to cure and then tested. If the waterproofing passes, the carriageway surfacing will be laid, followed by the road marking.”
Problems with the road surface approaching the same bridge led to the stretch of road being shut for several months in 2017.
