Storm Brings Giant Hail Stones & Flash Flooding In Market Harborough

A fierce thunderstorm brought giant hail stones and led to flash flooding on roads in Market Harborough.

It lasted for around 30 minutes from just before 5pm yesterday, bringing an abrupt end to glorious sunshine.

Police were called after vehicles got stranded in deep water on Northampton Road, near the Welland Park Road junction and some other roads were impassable during the torrential downpours.

Manhole covers were forced out of the ground in some areas, because of the intensity of the rain and hail and residents had to try to stop water entering their homes.

Some people have also reported damage to conservatory roofs and to the roofs of soft-top cars.

Darren Woodiwiss, a Harborough District councillor, was in the Northampton Road area during the storm and told HFM what it was like:
