Sports Stars Cut Ribbon At Upgraded Leisure Centre

An Olympian and Paralympian cut the ribbon to celebrate the major refurbishment of Harborough Leisure Centre.

Swimmers Rebecca Adlington and Maisie Summers-Newton were the star guests as a family open day marked the occasion on Saturday.

The multi-million pound upgrade was funded by Harborough District Council and Rebecca told HFM she was impressed with what she saw:

The refurbishment has included a new gym, extended well-being studio, enhanced pool area and the creation of a new multi-sport arena.

The centre, run by operator Everyone Active in partnership with the council, hosted free activities including swim sessions on Saturday.

Both Rebecca and Maisie supported swim and dry side activities during the day and there were also free gym sessions with a live DJ and personal training tasters.

Cllr Phil Knowles, Leader of Harborough District Council, said: “We have enjoyed a marvellous day here at Harborough Leisure Centre. The atmosphere has been wonderful with hundreds of guests enjoying the free sessions and meeting the friendly sports celebrities.

“I’m so proud that the significant investments we have made, and are continuing to make, are bringing both improved access and range of opportunities for sports and activities sessions to residents in the Harborough district.”
