Soaring Fuel Prices Add Pressure to Air Ambulances Serving HFM Region

Soaring fuel prices are placing increasing pressure on the air ambulance charity serving the HFM region, with additional costs of around £200,000 threatening to hit the service this year.

The price of aviation fuel has risen by nearly 70 per cent since the conflict in the Middle East began, with the cost per litre increasing by 61p.

The charity says each lifesaving mission is now costing more than £600 extra per day to operate.

Air ambulances have responded to three emergencies in the Harborough district in the past week alone, and the public is being urged to continue supporting the charity.

The organisation says patient care will not be affected despite the rising costs.

A spokesperson said: “Operationally it will not impact us – we will still be here for the patients of the East Midlands 24/7, 365 days a year – but financially it is a concern and something we need to monitor.”
