Shake-Up Of Councils In Leics Would Cost £18m

The next possible steps towards a massive shake up of Leicestershire’s councils have been set out.
Two options have been outlined – one would be to abolish the county council and the seven districts and replace it with one authority – the other would see two councils set-up.
The County Council claim the single unitary one would save £30m a year, the other £18m.
But both would cost around £18 million to set them up.
Harborough Council Leader Neil Bannister, together with the other District and Borough Leaders has already expressed concern about the Unitary proposal.
