Search For New Home To Save Model Aircraft Flying Club

A Harborough-based model aircraft flying club, which has been going for around seventy years, fears it will have to disband if it cannot find a new home.

The Leicester Area Radio Control Society – affectionately known as LARCS – has flown from the old Foxton Airfield, behind Gartree Prison, since the 1950s.

However, the remainder of that land is now being sold to property developers.

This means the 35 members who fly a variety of both petrol and electric-powered radio-controlled, model planes from the site have been told they will have to leave.

Peter Elson, acting vice-chair of LARCS, told HFM the club is now trying to find another landowner in the Harborough District who may have a suitable area they’d be prepared to rent out to them:
