School Ordered To Make Improvements After Rated ‘Inadequate’

A secondary school in Kibworth has been ordered to make urgent improvements after a damning report by inspectors who rated it ‘inadequate.’
Ofsted say the poor behaviour of some pupils at Kibworth Mead Academy means other students don’t feel safe in all areas of the school, with many avoiding using the toilets.
There are also concerns about lessons being disrupted by bad behaviour and bullying, with pupils not always reporting incidents, because they are not confident staff will deal with them effectively.
Inspectors, who visited for two days in May, say some children fail to attend school regularly, while many arrive late, meaning they are missing out on learning.
The secondary school, which has over 800 pupils, has been rated ‘inadequate’ in two of the four inspection areas – the others are deemed to ‘require improvement.’
The Mead Educational Trust, which the school is part of, says improvements have already been made and a new Principal will start when the new term begins in September.

Carolyn Robson, CEO of The Mead Educational Trust, said “While Ofsted commented on many positive aspects about Kibworth Mead, they also raised valid and serious concerns, specifically about safeguarding and behaviour. We agreed with their assessment of what needs to happen to address these issues.
“The new leadership team in place since Easter had already started to make changes, with renewed training for staff, better processes for following through on concerns and ensuring that students feel confident that issues raised with adults will be addressed.
“Inspectors recognised that the school has gone through a period of turbulence, that most senior leaders joined the school very recently, and that they have already begun to make significant improvements.
“A new and experienced principal is joining the school in September as well as several new senior staff. The Trust is also investing significant funding to upgrade the facilities, including toilet blocks.
“Kibworth Mead already feels a much different school to the one inspectors visited in May. We know that it will rapidly become an Ofsted ‘good’ school, and it can be an outstanding school.”
