Scam Warning Issued Over Fake Arthritis Charity Calls

Written by on 26th February 2026

Leicestershire Trading Standards has issued a warning after reports of scammers impersonating the charity Arthritis UK.

Fraudsters are contacting people by phone claiming they are eligible for help completing benefits forms — but only if they pay a fee.

Officials say this is a scam and have stressed that the charity never charges for support with benefit applications.

Residents who need genuine advice about claiming benefits because of arthritis are urged to visit the charity’s official website for free information and guidance.

Anyone who receives a suspicious call should avoid engaging, hang up immediately, and never provide personal or financial details.

Suspected scam numbers can be reported by forwarding the phone number to 7726.
