Sainsbury’s To Close Pizza Counter

Sainsbury’s is to close the pizza counter at its store in Market Harborough as part of plans to cut more than 3,000 jobs.

The supermarket chain is also shutting down its remaining cafés, closing patisserie counters and dispensing with its hot food counters.

It said the move was a bid to save money ahead of a massive leap in costs from budget tax measures, due to come into force within weeks.

Head office and senior management roles are among those affected.

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson added: “We are supporting the colleagues affected in any way we can, including exploring redeployment opportunities and our stores continue to support the customers and communities they serve in a range of ways, including through fundraising, volunteering and donations to good causes.”
