Rule Change Gives Green Light for Harborough ‘Banking Hub’

Written by on 18th September 2024

Market Harborough town centre will soon get a new ‘banking hub’ after all – despite being told by operator LINK only last month this wouldn’t happen until all our other banks had shut!

It seems the change of heart is due to new rules introduced today by the Financial Conduct Authority – which it’s claimed strengthen and enhance the previous voluntary rules set up by the banking industry.

LINK is confirming that its earlier recommendation, to provide only Deposit Services which support small businesses, will now be upgraded to a banking hub, run by Cash Access UK.

The Market Harborough hub – similar to the one in Lutterworth – will be able to support both personal and business customers; although its exact location is yet to be announced.

Cllr Phil Knowles, Leader of Harborough District Council, previously told HFM the old criteria for banking hubs was a concern – as it could have left Market Harborough without any bank at all for a period of time.

MP for Harborough, Neil O’Brien, says the rule change is great news!
