Written by HFM News on 27th July 2022
The road outside a village school will be closed to traffic at drop-off and pick-up times as part of a trial aimed at boosting safety.
A section of Main Street in Thurnby, where St Luke’s Primary is located, will shut between 8am and 9.15am and from 2.30pm til 4pm, when youngsters return from the summer holidays.
The four-week trial is part of Leicestershire County Council’s ‘School Streets’ programme, which seeks to limit traffic outside schools during busy periods.

The school in the north of the Harborough District is one of three across the county where the trial will take place – if it proves a success the scheme could be rolled out in other areas.
Cllr Ozzy O’Shea, cabinet member for highways and transport spoke to HFM:
St Luke’s was one of the schools where parents received the most fines last year for illegal parking at the start and end of the day.
