Revised Plans To Transform Derelict Site Into Apartments

Revised plans have been revealed to transform a long-standing derelict site in Market Harborough into apartments.

Developers say amendments to an already approved scheme for the corner of St Mary’s Road and Kettering Road are partly needed due to changes in the market.

Some alterations are proposed to the design and layout of three apartment blocks, which would be four and five storeys high, along with amendments to the scheme to convert the historic former flour mill on the site into flats.

83 one and two bedroom apartments would be created if the updated plan for the area on part of the former Harborough Rubber Company site is approved by Harborough District Council.

Cllr Jon Bateman, leader of the opposition, has welcomed the move:

A document supplied with the planning application reads: “The application site is recognised as a large, prominent position on a main route into Market Harborough.

“The site has significant history in the town’s cultural and industrial past. This proposals seek to acknowledge this in urban form and design.

“The scheme presents an alternative to the previously approved scheme, with a focus on apartments, making better use of the site.
