Residents Raise Safety Concerns At Plan To Dim Streetlights

More than half the people who responded to a public consultation say they are against plans to dim streetlights across Leicestershire.
The County Council is proposing to reduce lighting levels to 30% after 8pm, to save money and cut carbon emmissions.
53% of the 706 residents who had their say oppose the idea, citing a fear of crime and personal safety as the main reasons why.
No objections to the proposal have been raised by the Leicestershire Police, East Midlands Ambulance Service or Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service.
Cuts to streetlighting are proposed
Respondents in favour of the proposals cited the need to support the environment, preventing light pollution and to help the Council to save money.
Most lights currently dim to 30% at 10pm and a final decision on trialling the move for 18 months will be taken next month.
