Reassurance Offered Over Bus Cut Fears

Users of a bus between Market Harborough and Fleckney are being reassured there will still be a service when the current one ends.

Passengers have been left concerned after it emerged Centrebus will stop operating the number 44 service on March 16th.

The route, which also serves Foxton, Kibworth and The Langtons, is subsidised by Leicestershire Council, which is currently reviewing such services.

The council has told HFM there will be ‘no gap in service’ for passengers, but has yet to confirm more details.

It says planned changes to the subsidised network will involve the withdrawal of some existing services in their current form, to allow for them to be replaced with new provision.

The current 44 bus service will end next month

A council spokesperson said: “We are in the process of reviewing the Council’s supported passenger transport (PT) network, including services in Harborough such as service 44.

“Existing passengers can be assured that there will be no gap in passenger transport provision for them as any changes come into effect.

“We have been hosting roadshows over recent weeks to inform people of our objectives and the public transport solutions we aim to bring in, which will include a mix of new direct bus services and demand responsive services.

“The purpose of this project is to re-design a public network better suited to the area and we aim to provide people with more journey choice and access.

“Over the coming weeks, we will be informing communities of any changes being made in the wider Harborough area.
