Rare Signed Led Zeppelin Sleeve Sells For £15,000 At Market Harborough Auction

A rare signed Led Zeppelin album cover has sold at auction in Market Harborough today for £15,000 – more than eight times the pre-sale estimate.

The sleeve from the band’s 1973 album ‘Houses of the Holy’ was particularly sought after, as it was signed by all four band members before the untimely death of drummer John Bonham in 1980 and the band’s subsequent split.

The signatures were acquired by the vendor at Gatwick Airport, when the band were returning for a break during their tour of America in 1977.

It attracted fierce bidding and when it went under the hammer during an on-line music, vinyl and memorabilia auction at Gildings and was bought by a UK-based buyer.

The album was expected to attract bids of between £1,200 – £1,800 and a spokesperson for Gildings told HFM: “This outstanding result reconfirms the strength of the music memorabilia market for autographed items from some of the UK’s biggest artists of the last 70 years.

“With this set of signatures coming from a chance meeting with the original band members of Led Zeppelin at Gatwick Airport, it just goes to show that in this day and age if you spot a celeb, don’t ask for a selfie, ask for an autograph!”
