Rail Disruption Set To Continue Until Thursday

Disruption for Market Harborough rail users is set to continue until Thursday.

Network Rail is continuing to carry out repairs to a section of track near Braybrooke after it began to subside last week, following the recent storms.

The line between Leicester and Kettering was closed on Thursday and East Midlands Railway say it is likely to remain shut for the next three days, with replacement buses running.

Work continues to deal with the problem

An update on the train operator’s website reads: “The railway has degraded and action is being pro-actively taken to maintain the safety of all passengers and train crew who pass over the site.

Network Rail is currently working on repairing the problem and they have estimated that it will take until the end of service on Wednesday the 8th of November to resolve.

“We are expecting alterations and disruption on our Intercity and connect routes across the weekend, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Engineers are working to install soil nails and other equipment to stabilise the area of embankment.

Network Rail say they do not yet have a confirmed re-opening date for the section of track, although work progressed well over the weekend and various tests are taking place on site today, to check that materials like the concrete are setting as they need to.

A spokesman added: “We are sorry that we’re unable to give more definite information at this stage and will confirm details for passengers as soon as we can.”
