Public Meeting Over Naseby Sq Concerns

A public meeting takes place tonight into the controversial plan to re-develop Naseby Square on Market Harborough’s Southern Estate.

Eleven bungalow and eight flats would be demolished at the elderly persons’ living scheme if the proposal for 39 new houses goes ahead.

Campaigners have various concerns including the impact of residents who would be forced to move.

The meeting takes place at the Community Church on Bath Street from 6pm.

Harborough Council is behind the plan; a spokesman said: The Naseby Square redevelopment is an exciting collaborative scheme which aims to replace ageing properties with modern, fit-for-purpose homes.

“In the last few days, we have been made aware of a public meeting regarding the Naseby Square development.

“Unfortunately, this is too short notice for the Council to attend and we are also in the pre-election period, known as Purdah, when it would be inappropriate for councillors to attend public meetings such as this.

“However; we have offered to meet with residents in the new year to discuss any concerns they may have. We have also listened to feedback from Naseby Square tenants, and, based on this, we intend to revise the proposals and will be inviting feedback on these amendments shortly after Christmas as part of a further 21 day consultation period.”
