Prolific Shoplifter Jailed

A prolific shoplifter has been jailed for just over four months after a string of thefts across Leicestershire — including from Sainsbury’s in Market Harborough.

Shaun Williams, 30, of no fixed abode, admitted stealing washing products and steaks worth around £180 from the store on Springfield Street last month.

He also took sunglasses worth more than £2,000 from Vision Express in Leicester and other goods from the Co-op in Scraptoft.

Williams pleaded guilty to multiple counts of theft at Leicester Magistrates’ Court and was jailed for 18 weeks.

Speaking after the sentence was handed down, PC Ross and PC Hannah from Market Harborough and Lutterworth Police said: “Again we would like to thank the staff at the stores for all their support, without their assistance we would not be able to bring prolific offenders to justice.

“We will continue to carry out patrols in the area to deter further offending.”
