Prison Plans To Be Re-Considered By Council

Detailed plans for a giant new prison near Market Harborough will be re-considered next week.
Harborough District Council delayed making a decision on the matter last month over concerns about some elements of the blueprint.
Councillors requested planning officers went back to the Ministry of Justice to request further details about the layout of the jail, traffic and access matters and the boundary fence.

The 1,700-inmate jail is to be built on land near HMP Gartree after the go-ahead was given by the government, despite the council and a planning inspector rejecting the plan and strong opposition from locals.
The latest plans are known as ‘reserved matters’ and will be considered again by members of the council’s Planning Committee on Tuesday evening.
They are being recommended for approval.
