A Desborough man who made thousands of face shields for NHS and care workers has been recognised in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list.
Aaron Shrive has been handed a British Empire Medal for services to the Covid-19 response, after he used 3D printers to produce the vital PPE at the start of the pandemic for no charge.
The former Robert Smyth Academy student, who lived in Market Harborough at the time, often worked 18 hours a day to send them as far away as Scotland and Cornwall.

Aaron will receive the award at a ceremony later this year and will also be invited to a garden party at Buckingham Palace.
He told Hfm the honour came as a complete surprise to find out he had been honoured and couldn’t have done it without the support he received:
Market Harborough Olympic gold medallist Dylan Fletcher was also recognised in the honours list, awarded an MBE for services to sailing, after excelling at last summer’s games in Toyko and Paralympian Laura Sugar from Billesdon was awarded an MBE after she also won a gold medal in canoeing at the Paralympic Games.
