Power Cut Forces Shop Closures

Written by on 7th July 2025

A power cut has forced to closure of some shops and businesses in Market Harborough town centre.

19 premises are affected in and around the High Street and it could be several more hours before electricity is restored.

Work is taking place to restore supplies

The outage has been caused by a cable fault beneath the pavement outside the Phone Set Up shop and National Grid engineers are working at the scene.

While some shops and businesses in the area have no power, including two barbers and an estate agents, others located near-by still have electricity.

A National Grid Electricity Distribution spokesperson said: “At 8.01am, a fault with an underground cable caused a power cut affecting 34 properties on High Street.

15 properties have been restored, and 19 properties remain without power.

“Our engineers are working on the fault and estimate that power will be restored to all properties by 6.30pm this evening.

“We’re sorry for the inconvenience caused to customers and local businesses today and would like to thank them for their patience as we work to reconnect them.”
