Pollution Clean-Up Nears Completion

A major clean-up operation is nearing completion following a serious pollution incident in Market Harborough.
Around 150 tonnes of dumped oil and 16 tonnes of contaminated soil and vegetation have been removed from a ditch near the Ashley Way estate, adjacent to a well-used footpath.

The spill, discovered last weekend, is believed to have entered the watercourse via a drain from the nearby A6.
Specialist contractors were drafted deal with the pollution.
Ben Thornley from the Environment Agency spoke to HFM:
The Environment Agency has now left the site, however will be returning this week to check for any residual oil and will remove any further polluted material.
