Police Use Drugs Dog At School

Police Dog Storm was used in the operation
Police have deployed a drugs dog at The Kibworth School in a bid to detect any illegal substances being taken in.
It saw the dog, trained to sniff out everything from cannabis to ecstasy tablets, walking around the grounds as students arrived for their first day back after the Easter break yesterday, and as they went into assembly.
No drugs were detected and Police are stressing there is nothing to suggest there is a problem with substance misuse within the school, saying the operation was part of partnership working with staff and students there.
It’s the first time officers have used such a tactic in the Harborough District in recent years and officers hope to repeat it in the future and look at using the dog at other secondary schools in Market Harborough too.
Pc Steve Winn from Harborough Police, who was involved in the operation, spoke to Hfm:
Today, new figures show more children than ever before are being kicked out of school in England for taking and selling drugs.
Research group Volteface say there has been a 57% rise in drug and alcohol-related exclusions in secondaries in the past five years.
