Plea To Drivers After Fire Engine Gets Stuck

Drivers are being urged to think where they park after a fire engine got stuck between cars in Rothwell while on an emergency call.

The appliance was trying to negotiate parked vehicles in the Market Square and firefighters had to continue to the scene of the 999 call on foot, carrying equipment.

Luckily the alert just before 2pm turned out to be a false alarm.

A post  on the Rothwell Fire Station Facebook page reads: “This afternoon whilst attending an incident Rothwell’s fire engine became stuck between cars in the Market Square.

“The crew had to continue on foot to the incident carrying the equipment needed which added time to our response. Luckily when we returned some of the cars had moved so we were able to get free.

“Like all large vehicles our appliances suffer from tail swing which means the back of the truck swings out the opposite way of the turn. This means we need as much space as possible both sides.

“We know parking can be challenging however please be mindful that emergency services may need to pass.”

The crew will now be out in the community offering parking advice to try to avoid future incidents.
