Play Areas Remain Closed Across Harborough

Most play areas in parks across Harborough remain closed, despite the government saying they could be reopened earlier this month.

Parents are asking when children will be allowed to use them again, especially now the school summer holidays have begun.

Harborough Council says it is keen to re-open them as soon as possible, when satisfied it’s safe to do so.

A spokesman said: “Harborough District Council runs 28 play areas across the Harborough district and each would require an individual risk assessment before they can reopen.

“We are currently mindful of the Leicester lockdown, as well as issues with large gatherings of people in parks, and some anti-social behaviour in recent weeks and this is being taken into account.

“We are continuing to review our position, on a weekly basis, in light of wider issues and national guidance, and will announce any decision to reopen play areas once it is made.

New safety and cleaning measures would have to be put in place before the play areas could re-open.

Other play areas in the District are operated by Parish Councils or developers, who have their own policies in place.
