Plans Unveiled For Community Events Arena in Market Harborough

Plans have been unveiled to transform part of Welland Park in Market Harborough into a new community events arena.

The proposal by Harborough District Council would see the disused bowls pavilion and former bowling green converted into a flexible venue for local events.

Council Leader Phil Knowles told HFM the arena could host outdoor concerts and even a temporary “winter wonderland” ice skating rink, providing a space for activities throughout the year.

The project, outlined in the council’s draft budget plan, is expected to cost nearly £800,000 and would be funded with developer contributions.

Gareth Thomas, president of Market Harborough Chamber of Trade and Commerce, welcomed the idea:

The site has stood vacant since 2021, following the closure of the bowling club due to declining membership.

The council’s Cabinet will discuss the draft budget at a meeting tonight.
