Plans for 200 Homes Near Scraptoft Approved Despite Objections

Plans to build 200 homes on farmland in Scraptoft have been approved by councillors.

Outline permission for the development on land at Beeby Road, Scraptoft was granted by Harborough District Council at a meeting last night.

A total of 59 objections were submitted, including concerns over road safety and pressure on local services.

Of the 200 homes, 80 would be classed as affordable housing.

Council officers said the development would help meet housing need, provide employment opportunities and could deliver additional bus services for Scraptoft.

However, they acknowledged the scheme would cause harm to the character and appearance of the countryside, but said this was not considered to significantly and demonstrably outweigh the benefits.

The application was approved by seven votes to two.

A key factor in the decision to grant permission was the council’s current inability to demonstrate a five-year housing land supply.
