Plans Announced To Extend Market Harborough Cemetery

Plans have been announced to extend Market Harborough cemetery.

The District Council wants to utilise a small area of greenspace, adjacent to sports pitches at Harborough Leisure Centre, to create an additional 99 burial plots.

The proposal also includes improved landscaping, so the area is better enclosed.

The Council says the plan would enable the Northampton Road cemetery, which is approaching capacity, to be expanded, while a search continues for a suitable site to house a new cemetery in the town.

A study found there is currently a significant shortfall in burial and cremation space in the District for future years.

A planning application for the extension has been submitted this week.
