Plans have been announced to expand Market Harborough Medical Centre to help it cope with increasing patient numbers.
Single and two-storey extensions are proposed to the front and back of the Coventry Road surgery, to provide six new consulting rooms, three additional treatment rooms and a new pharmacy.
An improved reception area and extra office space for administrative staff is also included in the proposal.
The work is set to be funded by housing developers who have built in the town and have to provide money towards improvements to health facilities.
The practice has been identified as one of the most in need of development in Leicestershire and Rutland.
A planning application for the building work to allow for the expansion has been lodged with Harborough District Council this week.
Barbara Johnson is the ward councillor for the part of town where the medical centre is and has welcomed the announcement:

A document submitted with the planning application reads: “The extensions will allow the Medical Centre to provide both a better service to the local community and quality of care to the number of patients visiting Market Harborough by enhancing and increasing the number of consulting rooms and treatment space.
“The new extension works have been designed to respect the local character and appearance for the location of the site with suitable design features and external materials to suit.
“Layout of the building and access have also been given due consideration for suitable parking and servicing to help provide a welcoming environment for visitors to the new medical centre.”
