Planning Inspector To Rule On Market Harborough Tanning Salon’s Window Displays

A planning inspector is to decide if a tanning salon in Market Harborough can keep its window displays.

Malibu Tanning Lounge on Coventry Road is challenging a decision by Harborough District Council, ordering the removal of the decors, one of which is a picture of a woman sunbathing on a beach.

The council say the images ‘adversely affect the character and appearance of the area,’ but the salon owner Jim Cole refutes that and says he has received lots of support from locals since the row erupted last year.

The business opened in October 2021 and it is understood just two complaints were made to the council about the graphics, by people who found them ‘offensive’.

After Mr Cole appealed the decision and lodged a case with the Planning Inspectorate, a final decision is expected by mid-March.
