Phone Mast To Be Removed From Park

A mobile phone mast is to be removed from the Friendship Park in Market Harborough town centre to make way for an art sculpture.

The structure, owned by Harborough District Council, will be taken down after telecoms firm EE remove their equipment from the site on Northampton Road later this month.

Some people had branded the mast an ‘eye-sore’ in the park which was opened in May in a former overgrown area.

Cllr Darren Woodiwiss, the council’s portfolio holder for Open Spaces, said: “We have been working with EE for over two years on their use of the 3G mobile phone mast.

“EE have agreed to vacate the site to remove their equipment, cabin and fencing from the Friendship Park by 10 October 2025.

“The mast, which is owned by the council, will be taken down following removal of all telecoms equipment and will make way for a planned art sculpture which will be installed in the near future.”

EE erected a new 5G mast further along Northampton Road, at the Welland Park Road junction, in April.

Northampton Road will be closed between the Market Hall car park turn and Shruberry Court junction on September 30th to allow EE to decommission the site.
