Penalty Shoot-Out Heartbreak For Harborough

Harborough Town’s dream of back-to-back promotions is over.

It was heartbreak for the Bees who lost 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out, after last night’s Southern League Premier Central semi-final play-off away at Kettering Town finished 0-0 after extra time.

Despite the disappointment Mitch Austin’s side can reflect on great season overall – finishing 5th in the table during their first season at Step 3 of the non-league pyramid and reaching the second round of the FA Cup.

Austin was gracious in defeat and posting on X said: “Congratulations to Kettering town I thought you was the better team on the night and would have been a harsh victory of ours if the pens went our way.

“Atmosphere was way ahead of step 3 a real lions den.

“We wasn’t at our best and unfortunately fell short but it’s been a great season, we have built some great foundations and made some unreal memories.

“Football has given me a distraction in a harsh year of sad moments, losing my dad being the main hurt this year. I thank the players for keeping my mind focused elsewhere with the beautiful game. Time for a well deserved rest for the players and staff.”
