Payment Machine Fault Frustrates Market Harborough Drivers

Drivers are facing frustration at the Sainsbury’s car park in Market Harborough after half of the payment machines stopped working.

The problem has been caused by a power outage linked to changes in the way Sainsbury’s manages the lighting in the car park off Springfield Street.

Four machines installed as part of major upgrade late last year are affected and Harborough District Council has apologised while work continues to resolve the fault, which has been ongoing for several weeks,

A council spokesperson said: “We are working closely with Sainsbury’s to identify and implement a solution, although resolving the issue is taking some time.

“Despite this, four payment machines remain fully operational across the site, three of which accept both cash and card payments. These are located in front of The Range, outside Sainsbury’s, and towards the rear of the car park near Waitrose. Motorists can also pay for parking using the PayByPhone app.

“We appreciate the inconvenience this may cause to some users and thank motorists for their patience while we work to restore the affected machines.”
