Parking Charges Reinstated In Market Harborough

You have to pay to park in Market Harborough again from today.

Charges have been reinstated in all the Council car parks, after being suspended at the end of March because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The time limit in the free pop and shop bays is increased to an hour though, with more of those spaces at the Kings Head Place car park.

Jarrod Burke is Chairman of the Harbs Collective, that represents independent retailers.

He told Hfm he would have liked free parking to have continued for a bit longer:

Cllr Paul Dann, Harborough District Council’s Cabinet lead for corporate and regulatory services, said: “Now town centres have reopened there is an increased demand for spaces at car parks. Following feedback from businesses we have delayed reinstating parking charges for as long as possible, whilst being mindful of the significant loss of revenue incurred by the Council during the long period the charges were suspended. I urge shoppers to use phone payments if at all possible.”
