16,200 people living in the Harborough District were furloughed from their jobs last month.
The number is thought to have now dropped slightly, with more of the hospitality sector now able to re-open outdoors.
The figure has been released by the government along with the latest unemployment numbers, which show a slight reduction in the Harborough District.
1,910 people were out of work and claiming benefits in March – 30 less than February.
The figure shows the impact of the pandemic on the local economy, with 1,330 more people unemployed than March last year, just before the first lockdown.
