An Open Day will be held at Harborough Leisure Centre tomorrow to celebrate the completion of a multi-million pound upgrade.

The work funded by Harborough District Council has included creating a new gym with state-of-the-art equipment, an extended and refurbished wellbeing studio and refurbished group cycling and group exercise studios.

The pool area has been enhanced and changing area refreshed and a new sports arena has replaced the aging Dome.

In addition, there is a revamped café and a new reception.

Centre operator Everyone Active is hosting the open day between 10am and 4pm.

It will include free activities and two special guests – Olympian Rebecca Adlington and Paralympian Masie Summers-Newton.

Leader of Harborough District Council, Cllr Phil Knowles, said: “I’m proud of the improvements made as part of the hugely successful leisure refurbishment project at Harborough Leisure Centre.

“The capital investment has delivered improved accessible exercise opportunities for residents, with the facility also supporting a wide range of local groups and clubs. This is in addition to the important ongoing support for both rehabilitation and prehabilitation referrals as well as other outreach programmes.

“Following the fabulous open day event at Lutterworth Leisure Centre in September, I am eagerly anticipating the Harborough family open day where we look forward to showcasing the refreshed and upgraded facilities and brand-new equipment for our community to enjoy.”

Matthew Hopkin, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said: “We are so excited to host this open day and believe the huge programme of activities and Rebecca and Maisie’s involvement will prove the ideal way to celebrate with the whole community.

“We want to show as many people as possible the superb facility on their doorstep, which has something for everyone, no matter what your age, interests or ability. We would encourage people to book activities as soon as possible, to secure their place on the day.”

HFM’s Graham Beeby will be presenting his show live from the leisure centre from 10am tomorrow.
