Nurses Vote To Strike Over Pay In Northants

Nurses at Kettering General Hospital and Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Trust have voted to strike over pay.
Those working at hospitals and for community teams in Leicestershire will not be taking part in proposed walkouts, because the turnout at the ballot was not high enough.
Staff at East Midlands Ambulance Service have also voted in favour of the action, called by the Royal College of Nursing.

The strike will be the first time UK-wide action is taken by RCN members in its 106-year history, with general secretary Pat Cullen saying nurses had been getting a ‘raw deal’ on pay for years.
Health Secretary Steve Barclay said he “deeply regretted” that some union members had voted for action.
He said: “Our priority is keeping patients safe during any strikes.
“The NHS has tried and tested plans in place to minimise disruption and ensure emergency services continue to operate.”
Strike action is expected to start by the end of the year.
