Nurses Begin Strike Action

Written by on 15th December 2022

Nurses at Kettering General Hospital and Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust have walked out on strike.

It is the first time the Royal College of Nursing has taken action, as its members demand more pay.

The union says areas like chemotherapy and intensive care are still being covered today, but many routine operations are cancelled.

Nurses in Leicestershire are not taking part in the action, as too few voted in favour of walking out.

The government says the RCN is asking for a 19% pay rise, which is ‘affordable’.

Picket lines are in place outside Kettering General and St Mary’s Hospital in Kettering.

HFM asked Kettering General Hospital what impact the action would have today, but the hospital did not want to comment.
