‘No Risk’ To Supplies From Gas Leak On Outskirts Of Desborough

Gas supply firm Cadent says there is no risk to supplies after confirming a leak on a gas main on the outskirts of Desborough.

People have expressed concern at the strong smell of gas in the area of the A6, near the junction with the B576.

Speaking about the leak, a Cadent spokesman told HFM: “It is under control and being regularly checked and monitored.

“There is no current risk to gas supply to the local area and we are liaising with the relevant local agencies to decide the best time to go in and repair this, as it will need temporary traffic lights in place for us to do this safely.”

The company is also urging people to report a smell of gas, with the spokesman adding: “One of the challenges and concerns we face here is people smelling gas and not ringing it in, because they assume it’s related to this.

“Can I stress that people should always ring the national gas emergency number 0800 111 999 if they smell gas, day or night.

“Don’t delay, or assume it is related to this – it may not be and needs to be checked.”
