New Support For Cancer Patients Across Harborough

A new scheme to help cancer patients pre and post-surgery is to launch in the Harborough district.

It will see the Council working with Glenfield hospital and Everyone Active – the operator of local Leisure Centres – to run a six-week ‘pre-habilitation’ programme.

It will involve supervised exercise sessions as well as nutritional, educational and psychological support.

Cllr Amanda Nunn, Harborough District Council’s portfolio holder for Well-being said: ‘I’m so pleased our district has been chosen to pilot this progressive scheme which supports people during a difficult time to prepare both physically and mentally for treatment. I hope it is a huge success. ’

Matthew Hopkin, Centre Manager for Harborough Leisure Centre said: ‘We have a great team of experienced staff here at Harborough Leisure Centre. I know they are completely committed to supporting participants of the new scheme and we look forward to helping them on their journey to recovery.’

Some of the Council’s sports instructors are being trained and up-skilled to qualify as Level 4 cancer rehabilitation instructors as part of the initiative.
