New SEND School Planned For Market Harborough

Plans have been announced to open a new school in Market Harborough for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

It would be created in the former Roman Way Community Centre and accommodate just under 90 students aged 5 to 19, along with over 60 members of staff.

Education provider Aurora Group is behind the plan, which would see 11 classrooms created within the building and a multi-use games area erected outside.

The move follows the closure and sale of the community centre by Leicestershire County Council earlier this year.

A spokesperson for Aurora Group told HFM: “We have chosen to open a school in Market Harborough because Leicestershire County Council and the local community have told us of the need they have for such provision.

“The school will provide day placements for primary and secondary aged students with special educational needs and disabilities.

“There are lots of steps that need to be taken before a school like this can open. These include the planning process, building works, curriculum planning, recruitment of staff and Ofsted registration.

“We are working closely with the council to ensure the school best serves the needs of students with additional learning needs in the County.

“All being well we hope to open in Autumn 2026.”

Aurora Group has applied for planning permission to change the use of the building and make some external alterations.
