New Rail Bridge Opens In Kibworth

A new footbridge has opened over the railway in Kibworth.
It has been constructed off School Road by Network Rail during the past six months and replaces a previous bridge, which was demolished because it was too low to accommodate wires for the electrification of the tracks.
Villagers have been using a temporary bridge since last October, after campaigning for the well-used pedestrian link with Warwick Park to be retained during the works.

The new bridge is wide enough for emergency vehicles to use and the temporary bridge will be removed over the coming weeks, together with a near-by compound which was created for the construction.
Some finishing touches are still to be made to the bridge and extra work will take place to resolve an issue of rainwater gathering on the approach to one side of it.
Harborough MP Neil O’Brien and local councillors visited the new bridge today and met with Network Rail officials.
