New Co-Op To Form Part Of Redevelopment In Centre Of Great Glen

Written by on 7th June 2023

A new C0-Op store is set to be built in Great Glen after planning permission was granted to redevelop an area in the centre of the village into new homes.

The scheme will see the current shop demolished along with derelict buildings on the adjacent former Thorpes Joinery factory site, off Church Road.

Eight houses will then be built on the site, along with the new store, which will have six flats above it and a bigger car park.

Harborough District Council’s planning committee gave the go-ahead for the plan at a meeting last night and were told the the current Co-Op store will not close until the new one is ready to open.

The factory site has stood empty since 2019, when Thorpes relocated to Market Harborough.
