Go-Ahead For ‘Eye-Sore’ Site In Market Harborough To Be Transformed Into Flats

The go-ahead has been given for a long-standing derelict site in Market Harborough to be transformed into flats.

Planning permission has been granted for three apartment blocks, of four and five storeys, to be built at the corner of St Mary’s Road and Kettering Road, adjacent to the River Welland.

The blocks will house 79 one and two-bedroom flats and a further six will be created by the conversion of the historic flour mill on the site.

The plan, including 39 car parking spaces, will finally redevelop the area which has stood vacant for decades, since the Harborough Rubber Company vacated the site.

Members of Harborough District Council’s planning committee unanimously approved the plan by Northamptonshire-based Hazelton Homes at a meeting last night, despite some reservations about the scheme, including the low number of car parking spaces.
