A new Urgent Care Hub for North Northamptonshire is to be built after the government approved funding of £46m.
The facility will be at Kettering General Hospital and include a new Accident and Emergency Department.
The existing A and E unit, which saw a temporary extension installed in 2013, was designed to cope with 100 patients a day, but is now regularly seeing over 300.
Health Minister Edward Argar made the announcement in the Houses of Parliament today following a seven year campaign by the the hospital and Kettering MP Philip Hollobone.
