More Than 1,400 Back Call for A6 Safety Improvements

More than 1,400 people have signed a petition calling for urgent safety improvements at busy A6 junctions in Kibworth.
Harborough MP Neil O’Brien launched the campaign last month, focusing on the Church Road and New Road junctions, which have been the scene of several collisions in recent years.
He has now secured an on-site meeting with senior highways officials from Leicestershire County Council, as concerns continue to grow about safety at the locations.

Neil said: “I’m pleased we’re now getting senior decision-makers out to Kibworth to see these junctions for themselves. Residents have been raising concerns about safety here for years, and it’s vital that the people with the power to act understand the reality on the ground.
“Traffic on the A6 has increased significantly, yet these junctions remain dangerous. People regularly tell me they feel unsafe pulling out, particularly when turning right towards Market Harborough.
“This meeting is progress, but it’s not the end of the story. We still need a clear, funded plan to make these junctions safe. That’s why I’d encourage everyone who hasn’t already done so to sign the petition and keep the pressure on.”
Leicestershire County Council previously said major road projects take time and significant investment, but improvements are planned for the Wistow Road roundabout.
They added draft designs are being finalised, with public consultation due in spring 2026 and work aimed for 2027.
The council said that while there are wider concerns about traffic in Kibworth, further A6 improvements will depend on future funding, with the Wistow scheme seen as an important first step.
