More EV Charging Points Set For Harborough After Successful Funding Bid

More electric car charging points are set to be installed in the Harborough District after the government approved a funding bid of £935,000.

Leicestershire County Council was one of five local authorities to apply for the cash, which will fund 100 new EV points across the county, the majority to be placed in residential areas.

Councillor Ozzy O’Shea, County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport for Leicestershire County Council, said: “We’re delighted with the news of a successful bid and it enhances our credentials as a green council. Leicestershire is very much defined by its rural location and motorists will welcome a significant increase in the number of public charging points.”

“The success also serves to further emphasise our commitment to carbon reduction and help to cement our ambitious plans to become net zero by 2045. We can now set to work on bringing in the vital infrastructure.”

Harborough District Council has already installed charging points in some of its car parks as latest figures show there are nearly 300 electric cars registered in the district and predictions the number to rise to around 6,000 by 2025.
