Market Harborough man jailed for drug-driving after failing to appear in court

A Market Harborough man has been jailed for eight months after admitting drug-driving offences and failing to attend court.
Adam Smeeton, of Northbank, was arrested in the town on Saturday after a warrant was issued when he failed to appear before Leicester Magistrates’ Court the previous day.
The 41-year-old admitted driving on Springfield Street, Market Harborough, on 17 January 2026 while over the legal limit for the cocaine metabolite benzoylecgonine.
He also pleaded guilty to driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, after failing to renew it when a previous disqualification ended in September 2021, and to driving without insurance.
Magistrates sentenced Smeeton for the drug-driving offence, to run consecutively to a separate sentence for shop theft.
He was also disqualified from driving for 40 months.
The court said a custodial sentence was justified because the offences were so serious and cited Smeeton’s “flagrant disregard for court orders” after he failed to attend his original sentencing hearing.
