Man Jailed For New Year’s Day Stabbing In Broughton Astley

A man who stabbed a person walking home from a New Year’s party in Broughton Astley has been jailed for four years.

James Green attacked the man on Main Street in the early hours of January 1st this year.

The victim, aged 47, suffered a stab wound to his back and needed hospital treatment before being discharged.

Green, 31, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty at Leicester Crown Court to causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing a bladed article.

Detective Constable Simon Roberts, from Leicestershire Police’s Complex Investigation Team, was the investigating officer. He said: “The victim was assaulted as he returned home after a night out with friends.

“He was stabbed in a seemingly unprovoked attack leaving him bleeding and requiring hospital treatment.

“Enquires commenced to find who was responsible and resulted in Green being arrested hours later, when he approached an officer on duty at the scene.”
